Pittsburgh -Steelers Country

Ann wanted to make what is probably a farewell trip to Pittsburgh to see old friends and visit her ex parents in law grave. So we went via Falling Waters - the house designed in the 1930s by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Kaufman family (a Pittsburgh Dept Store now Macey's), Maria and Robbie had called there at Christmas time on the way down to see us. It is certainly worth the trip and in fact Route 40 was a much better road to Pittsburgh than the Turnpike and probably little further. Route 40 is in MA while the Turnpike (70) is in PA and state road budgets are VERY different. The house is built over a waterfall and in its day must have been very contemporary. Kaufman had thought Frank would design it on the other bank looking towards the water fall but when you see that the main rock structure is over the fall you can see the logic- for a lateral thinker anyway
The enxt night we stayed at a B&B we researched on the net - they are all very simple farm houses in the area except two we found. One was 10miles from a restaurant so found one out of the way (an hour) at the Captains Watch (http://www.thecaptainswatch.net/) in Greensboro that would give us dinner. When we made the booking we were asked if we wanted steak or salmon so we thought it would be cheap and cheerful and certainly better than the cafeteria type restaurant that was the option down the road. So after some wrong turns we finally got there to be greeted by a gent of Scottish ancestry and his two bull dogs - with a British Racing green Morgan parked out the front. Set up on the verandah was a table for two - "thats for you" he said. So we had the complimentary pre dinner beers and continued with dinner in the sunset - lobster bisque, steak, baked potato and corn followed by sponge/fresh strawberries and cream. A real find

Then it was onto Pittsburgh to see Wendy and Bob Chan - old friends from Anns PA days (thats Ann and Wendy with the Pittsburgh backdrop) and Donna (Anns ex sister in law) who kindly met us and showed us to her parents grave. Ann was very grateful for that and pleased she had gone there.
Pittsburgh is Steelers country. They played the Seattle Seahawks the day we were there - so we got a view form the hill. But everyone is dressed in Steelers jerseys, cars are painted Steelers colours, flags fly from every house and car - and you want to see the shops - Steelers underwear to Steelers dog attire - everywear everywhere! So Ann now has a "Terrible Towel" = a yellow and black towel that fans wave at games. She used it last night but the Steelers lost a last second kick to the Cardinals
